Grants

Many grants are available on topics like clean air, environment, safe routes to school, preventive health measures, and active transportation. It take time to research, and application processes can be lengthy, but grants can be incredibly helpful.

Crowdfunding for purchasing a sweeper

GoFundMe has been a great tool for people to raise funds covering the cost of a sweeper. Here are examples of successful GoFundMe campaigns:

Crowdfunding for paid sweeping

Several crowdfunding platforms exist that are meant for recurring funding. On the Sunshine Coast in BC, several community members regularly donate through Patreon platform for paying operators of a bike lane sweeper to regularly sweep.

Advertising

The polycarbonate sheet wrapping around the sweeper can provide prime real-estate for local businesses to advertise. The sweepers have roughly 3 feet by 1.5 feet of available space. You can also attach a flag (for example, of the type with a teardrop shape) with attention grabbing advertising space.

One of our early customers gathered the community at a local brewery, and in exchange for the added business, the owner bought advertising space on the sweeper for a year.

Corporate giving for social impact

The company you work for might be open to assisting you financially to promote bicycling to work. Some major corporations offer grants (e.g. Walmart) on a recuring basis.
